Introduction

“The Scholarship Project for the Training of Localized Chinese Language Teachers Overseas” is set up by headquarter of the Confucius Institutes, aiming to support the training of localized Chinese language teachers and meet the needs of Chinese language teachers in all countries.

A. Aiding Objectives

The aiding objectives are students majoring in Chinese language teachers’ teaching in foreign universities or students willing to be Chinese language teachers after graduation majoring in Chinese language. The educational background requires a regular college senior, a graduate or a Doctor; aiding objectives are non-Chinese nationalities; aiding objectives are supposed to sign up with the school and ensure a certain time of Chinese language teaching work after graduation.

B. Aiding Means

Headquarter of the Confucius Institutes signs up with the foreign cooperative universities the scholarship agreement to engage the number of students to get the aid, the amount of aid and so on. The students to get the aid are recommended by the foreign cooperative party and submitted to headquarter of the Confucius Institutes for approval. The scholarship is handed out by the foreign cooperative party. At the end of the project, the study situation and the job after graduation of the students should be reported to headquarter of the Confucius Institutes.

Conditions needed for a foreign cooperative university: universities with Chinese language teachers’ teaching or Chinese language major.

C. Scholarship Contents and Standards

Based on each country’s tuition standard, half or entire of the tuition will be aided for one academic year.

D. Application Access

Universities where Confucius Institutes exist can directly apply to the headquarter of the Confucius Institutes through the local Confucius Institutes, other universities can apply directly or through Confucius Institutes in that area.
