Overseas Chinese Teachers’ Training Program in China

The Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) sets up Overseas Chinese Teachers’ Training Program in China to subsidize overseas Chinese teachers all over the world for their professional development. The training course will be offered by Chinese universities at local campuses. The course plan will be released on the Platform for Local Teachers Programs after approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in March. The course mainly includes Chinese professional knowledge, Chinese teaching skills, Chinese teaching methods, Chinese testing and evaluation, Chinese teaching material, Chinese culture and national conditions, and cultural comparison between China and foreign countries. The training courses last 1-4 weeks with more than 15 students. The guideline is hereby notified as follows:

II. Application Requirements

A.Applicants shall be the full-time or part-time local teachers from Confucius Institute or in-service Chinese language teachers from overseas main universities, colleges and schools;

B.Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens;

C.Applicants shall be under the age of 60 and in good health conditions;

D.The Chinese Proficiency of the applicants should conform to the requirements of the seminar.

III. Application Procedures

A.Login to the Platform for Local Teachers Programs of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) http://kzxylocalteacher.hanban.org and finish the application before June 1. Any application that is overdue will no longer be accepted.

B.Choose the seminar courses opened by the training colleges according to own needs;

C.Submit the Application Form to a recommendation institution (a Confucius Institute/Classroom, or local Chinese Embassy and Consulate) after choosing the seminar courses;

D.After the application being approved by the recommendation institution, the colleges that open the seminars shall review it; after the review, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) will approve the application.

E.The applicant may login the Overseas Chinese Teachers' Training Program platform in the Confucius Institute Headquarters（Hanban）website at any time to check the status of his or her application;

F.After the application being approved, the applicant shall contact the host university in China to go through the related procedures.

IV. Funding

A. Tuitions, accommodation (double room) and teaching materials expenses will be covered by Hanban.

B. The round-trip tickets, in principle, shall be paid by the applicants.

If there is any difficulty, please apply as following procedures:

(1) The applicant may apply to the recommendation institution (Confucius Institute/Classroom or local Chinese Embassy). Funding shall be provided after the application being approved by the Confucius Institute. The Chinese training institutions shall order tickets in accordance with the relevant policies of the state;

(2) The funding standard: economy class, shortest route

Transfer, if needed, shall not exceed 48 hours;

(3) The applicant can only enjoy international round-trip travel expenses fund for once within 3 years.
