1st International Seminar & Roundtable Meeting “Professional Chinese Teaching” in Southeast Asia Held in Jakarta
The 1st International Seminar & Roundtable Meeting “Professional Chinese Teaching” in Southeast Asia was held on July 10th in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The seminar was co-hosted by the Pusat Bahasa Mandarin at University of Al Azhar Indonesia and the Chinese Language Department of University of Al Azhar, aiming to further innovate, strengthen and standardize the professional teaching of Chinese in the future, and boost an active role of the Confucius Institute in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative.
Xiao Xiangzhong, Chinese Director of the Pusat Bahasa Mandarin at University of Al Azhar Indonesia, said in the opening speech that the heads of six Confucius Institutes in Indonesia as well as the principals of Chinese education institutions from other countries in Southeast Asia were invited to the seminar, and would discuss for two days the language policies and development of Chinese education of Southeast Asian countries, the “Chinese +” development model of Southeast Asian countries under the Belt and Road Initiative, and the characteristics and teaching strategies of nationalized and regionalized professional Chinese teaching methods in Southeast Asian countries.
Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director-General of Hanban, sent a congratulatory letter to the seminar. He expressed that since its establishment, Pusat Bahasa Mandarin at University of Al Azhar Indonesia has been actively carrying out Chinese teaching, cultural exchanges and training of local Chinese teachers, and has trained a large number of Chinese talents. It has played an important role in promoting the connectivity as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two peoples. It is hoped that relevant institutions in Southeast Asia will take this seminar as an opportunity to promote the coordinated development of Chinese teaching in the region and contribute to the friendship between China and Southeast Asia.
