Captains Regent of Republic of San Marino Meet with Student Delegation of Beijing Summer Camp the Confucius Institute at University of San Marino

On June 28th, local time, Stefano Palmieri and Matteo Ciacci, Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino, met with a student delegation of Beijing summer camp from the Confucius Institute at the University of the Republic of San Marino. About 40 people attended the event, including Guerrino Zanotti, Secretary of State for Internal Affairs, Gianfranco Terenzi, Chairman of Council at the Confucius Institute, Foreign Director Maria Katia Sciarrino, Chinese Director Yan Shijun, representatives of teachers, students and parents from the Confucius Institute at the University of the Republic of San Marino.

Matteo Ciacci spoke highly of the achievements of the Confucius Institute at the University of the Republic of San Marino in the past three years. He expressed that the Confucius Institute has built a good platform for cultural exchanges between the two peoples. Although San Marino and China are far apart from each other, cultural exchanges can draw people of the two countries closer. He said, “The Confucius Institute at the University of the Republic of San Marino has held many meaningful cultural events in just a few years since its establishment in 2015, opening the door for the people of San Marino to understand Chinese culture. I am very glad to see that children have a chance to participate in the summer camp in Beijing. It will be a wonderful and unforgettable experience for them, and also enhance their understanding of Chinese culture. On behalf of the San Marino government, I would like to express my thanks to the Confucius Institute for providing such a valuable opportunity for children.”

Guerrino Zanotti congratulated students who will participate in the Beijing summer camp. He encouraged students to serve as envoys of friendship for bilateral exchanges by actively learning Chinese language and understanding Chinese culture, and make contributions to the political, economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Gianfranco Terenzi recognized the cultural exchange activities and teaching work held by the Confucius Institute in the first half of the year. He said that an increasing number of person are attending the Confucius Institute’s Chinese language courses and cultural activities, including people from kindergartens, junior high schools, high schools, universities and elderly communities. As one of the important activities of the Confucius Institute, the summer camp will further deepen the understanding of Chinese language and culture among students in surrounding areas of San Marino and Italy.

Yan Shijun said in his speech that over the past three years since the establishment, the Confucius Institute has witnessed the development of China-San Marino cultural exchanges. He also expressed his thanks to the San Marino government, the University of the Republic of San Marino, the San Marino-China Friendship Association and local institutions for their support and assistance for the development of the Confucius Institute. He said that the Confucius Institute is willing to open the door to cooperate with any institution that welcomes Chinese culture. He believed that the friendship and cultural exchanges between the two peoples will embrace a more brilliant future.

The summer camp will be held on July 14th and last for 15 days, with participation of 32 students from San Marino, Italy, the United States, Poland and Ukraine. Beijing City University, as the host in China, has made meticulous preparation for the summer camp. San Marino RTV and local media will cover the event.
