Confucius Institute at Chiang Mai University Assists China Pavilion at 2018 Lanna Expo
On July 1st, the 2018 Lanna Expo concluded at Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Center. The exhibition activities of the China pavilion at this exposition were hosted by Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai and undertaken by the Confucius Institute at Chiang Mai University.
The China pavilion presented the visitors from all countries with a cultural feast that combined the charm of Chinese classical art with the sense of advanced science and technology, winning high praises and showcasing the profound friendship between China and Thailand for “China and Thailand are as close as one family”. Under the guidance and assistance of Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai, the Director, along with all the teachers of the Confucius Institute at Chiang Mai University, had made active preparation for the serial cultural exhibition activities at the China Pavilion of this exposition and the “Chinese Day: Chinese Show” art performance.

During the 10-day activities, teachers from the Confucius Institute have explained the cultural knowledge in detail to the visitors, which included Chinese calligraphy, Chinese knot, Chinese paper-cut, Chinese tea art, Chinese food and Chinese clothing. Teachers also invited visitors to learn how to write Chinese characters, make Chinese knot and paper-cuts, taste Chinese tea and delicious Chinese food and try on clothes provided to take photos, enabling the guests present to have a true taste of Chinese culture.
Over 100,000 people attended the China pavilion and experienced its activities during the exposition. The active assistance of the Confucius Institute at Chiang Mai University has received high appreciation from the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai and received wide media coverage. The Confucius Institute will fully take advantage of various chances and platforms, firmly stay committed to the purpose of “serving the people in northern Thailand, intensifying China-Thailand friendship”, and actively play the role as a platform of cultural exchanges, so as to increase its local influence and popularity. The Confucius Institute has aimed at building itself into a demonstration center for Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture promotion in northern Thailand, making contributions to people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
