Confucius Institute at University of Macau Holds Plaque Unveiling Ceremony

On April 16th, the Confucius Institute at the University of Macau (UM) held a grand plaque unveiling ceremony in the Hengqin new campus of UM. Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education, Sun Da, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director-General of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, Lam Kam Seng Peter, Chair of the UM University Council, Song Yonghua, Rector of UM and Jin Honggang, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, jointly unveiled the plaque for the Confucius Institute. Principals of relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Education, leaders of the UM, heads of faculties and departments, and some representatives of teachers and students of the university attended the unveiling ceremony.

In his speech, Song Yonghua, Rector of the UM, pointed out that the Confucius Institute at the UM will make use of Macao’s advantages such as its unique geographical location, the diverse cultures and the multilingual society to provide Chinese language training for local people in Macao. At the same time, it will also place priority on carrying out distinctive international Chinese language teaching for Portuguese-speaking countries. Besides, the Confucius Institute at the UM will cultivate local Chinese teachers, develop online and offline teaching resources and conduct relevant academic research projects.
