President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy Chen Baosheng Visits Cairo University and Inspects Confucius Institute

On the afternoon of November 4th, local time, Chen Baosheng, President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy and Minister of Education visited Cairo University, Egypt and was well received by faculty and students there.

Upon meeting Saed Yehia Mahmoud Daw, Vice President of Cairo University, Chen acknowledged the efforts that Cairo University paid for enhancing academic exchanges between the two countries, and highlighted its successful co-establishment of the Confucius Institute with Peking University. Chen claimed that all developments are tied to education and the young people’s mutual exchanges and visits lay a solid foundation for bilateral relations. China and Egypt enjoy a good basis of cooperation and both countries hope to cooperate with one another and cement friendship. China will support Cairo University in establishing more connections with Chinese universities.

Saed Yehia Mahmoud Daw stated that it is of great significance to further the communications between the youths of two countries as learning Chinese led a global cultural trend nowadays. Cairo University has laid much emphasis on Chinese teaching in recent years and hopes that both sides can foster further cooperation in student exchange and mutual recognition of diploma and degree, etc.

Chen also inspected the Confucius Institute at Cairo University and visited state-funded Chinese teachers and volunteers to have a better idea of their living and studying conditions. Later that day, Chen watched a talent show presented in Chinese by local students.

Chen Baosheng spoke highly of the accomplishments of the Confucius Institute at Cairo University, and expressed his appreciation in “three dreams”, namely, to facilitate the establishment of more Confucius Institutes worldwide, to cultivate future ambassadors to China in the Confucius Institute, and to develop the Confucius Institute at Cairo University into the one of the best institutes in the world, so as to learn from each other and carry forward China-Egypt traditional friendship.

On his visit to Egypt, Chen also attended the World Youth Forum and other activities as President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy.
