As interaction and cooperation between China and Indonesia in such areas as economy and trade, culture and education continue to deepen and expand, every year more and more students from Indonesia come to study in China or learn Chinese in Indonesia, and there is an increasing demand for HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) among Chinese learners.

According to Cai Changjie, Executive Director of Coordinating Agency of Chinese Language Education in Jakarta, the agency set up 4 test sites for HSK exams in 2001 and there were merely 1,200 examinees back then; by 2016, there were already 19 test sites in Indonesia with 13,914 examinees. Until now, there have been 89,971 examinees in total.

In 2014, designated by China’s Hanban, the agency was in charge of HSK Internet-based test in Indonesia. So far the agency has 8 Internet-based test sites with 1,436 online examinees.

Cai Changjie noted that the exhibition aims at providing a platform for Indonesian students studying in China, Chinese language learners in Indonesia, China-funded enterprises in Indonesia, relevant Indonesian enterprises, various colleges and universities in Indonesia, and prestigious universities in China to conduct communication and cooperation.

Cai Changjie hoped that the exhibition can help bring more Indonesian students to study in China where they can obtain better choices, cultivate more talents for Indonesia’s economic development and produce more ambassadors of friendly exchanges between the two countries. It is also expected that the exhibition can help the China-funded and relevant Indonesian enterprises address the shortage of Chinese language talents, and provide more and better job opportunities for graduates in Indonesia.

Du Qiqi, Assistant Country Manager of the BOC Jakarta branch, expressed that apart from providing the high-quality “financial services for studying in China” for Indonesian students who study in China, the branch also looks forward to having a large number of Indonesian students with a good command of Chinese. Together they can make contributions to developing Indonesia’s economy and promoting China-Indonesia economic and trade cooperation.
